Canada Shines at the World’s 50 Best North America: Montréal in the Spotlight

5 Montréal in 50 best

It was a night of celebration for North American gastronomy with the very first edition of the World’s 50 Best North America. And Canada—especially Montréal—shone brightly!

Two Québec Restaurants in the Top 5 (!!)

Yes, you read that right. Two local establishments made it into the continent’s top five.
Mon Lapin (Montréal) clinched an impressive 2nd place—a well-deserved tribute to a passionate team that has built a truly unique restaurant: convivial, rooted in local terroir, and endlessly creative.
Tanière3 (Québec City) proudly landed at 5th place with an immersive, avant-garde dining experience that pushes the boundaries of gastronomy while telling Québec’s culinary story. A remarkable one-two punch for the province!

A Diverse and Vibrant Canadian Scene

That’s not all. From coast to coast, several Canadian addresses were recognized:

  • Quetzal (Toronto), #11

  • Montréal Plaza (Montréal), #22

  • Published on Main (Vancouver), #28

  • Le Violon (Montréal), #29

  • Alma (Montréal), #43

  • Mhel (Toronto), #44

  • Beba (Montréal), #50

The result? Montréal placed five restaurants on the list—a performance that firmly confirms its status as a North American gastronomic capital.

Exceptional Talent Recognized

The gala also highlighted the achievements of two key figures:

  • Vanya Filipovic, sommelier and co-owner of Mon Lapin, was named Best Sommelier in North America!! An international recognition of her sensitive, instinctive, and deeply human approach to wine.

  • Normand Laprise, founding chef of Toqué!, received the Icon Award. A true pioneer, he helped shape Québec gastronomy as we know it today and continues to inspire an entire generation of chefs. An honor more than deserved!

Montréal: North America’s Gastronomic Capital

With this cascade of accolades, one thing is clear: Montréal and Canada are not only on the North American culinary map—they’re writing some of its most exciting chapters.

And we couldn’t be prouder. Proud of our chefs, our teams, our artisans, and of this Québec culinary scene that has never shone so brightly. BRAVO!
